Wondering how to take a striking photo simply in your backyard? Three helpful tips I've gathered include: angles mean everything, live instead of pose, & editing works wonders. Changing the angle of a photo helps make it more interesting and appealing to the eye. For instance, instead of taking a straight on shot of a tree, go beneath it and take a shot from the ground up. My favorite angle to capture in almost any situation is from down below; it is very flattering in portraits, as it elongates the body, as well as creates a captivating look for building in the city. The next pointer is focused completely on taking and/or modeling for portraits. I've found that the most interesting look for these type of photos is surrounded by the pose of the subject. My best advice for you is to experiment and just try new things. Like I said previously, for each location I am all over the place looking for unique angles that are flattering for the subject. Also, if you going to be modeling for portraits, have a few go-to stances that you can always pull out in case you are feeling awkward in front of the camera. Some that never fail me are playing with the hair, hands in the pockets, & my not-quite-perfected straight face. My last and probably my favorite tip is knowing how to edit. My all time favorite app to use is VSCO where you can do anything from using filters to adjusting exposure/saturation/contrast. Editing can truly take an ordinary photo and make it extraordinary. Well, that's all I have on creating and capturing the perfect shots. Just take a step outside and you'll be surprised how many neat opportunities are out there.
